Sony Ericsson C903 Cybershot Phone Comes Complete With Geotagging, Flickr [Cellphones]

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Technology

The Sony Ericsson C903 Cybershot comes in a slider form factor and has a 2.4-inch screen, 5-megapixel camera, face detection and geotagging.

The phone also comes with a full suite of photo-specific features, such as Flickr Uploadr, ShutterSmile (snaps when it detects a smile) and BestPic (takes 9 rapid-fire photos, keeps the best) enhancements, as well as Photo and Video Blogging apps. The geotagging uses aGPS to carry out it's function, has an auto-rotating screen and dedicated camera buttons, but the phone only makes use of an HSPA cellular radio.

The C903 is essentially a lesser-equipped version of the 8.1-megapixel C905, but I prefer the look of the the C903, personally. The phone is expected to hit stores in Q2 2009. [Sony Ericsson via BB Gadgets]

Regenerative shock absorbers developed by team at MIT

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Technology

A team of undergrads at MIT -- led by Shakeel Avadhany and Zack Anderson -- has produced a prototype of a shock absorber for vehicles which can harness and generate electricity back into the vehicle. The team claims that their prototype increases a vehicle's fuel-efficiency by up to 10 percent by using a "hydraulic system that forces fluid through a turbine attached to a generator." There is an active electronic system for controlling and optimizing the damping for a smoother ride than regular old shocks. The team is actively seeking to develop and commercialize the product, and have already seen interest in the prototype from the United States military and also several manufacturers of trucks, which see the most benefit from the shocks... so look for these guys on Grave Digger any day now.

Yup, everything's going to plan. [Reuters]

Not content to just outsource their customer … [United]

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Consumer Interest

Not content to just outsource their customer service, United is shutting down its phone center in India in April, instead relying wholly on written complaints. They claim they'll be able to better respond to written complaints, but we know it's just as easy to paste irrelevant advice and insincere apologies as it is to speak them.

Secondrun.tv Will Bring Hulu to Windows Media Center Soon [Online Tv]

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Technology

Ok, so it might not be an official Hulu-Microsoft partnership, but Secondrun.tv, an upcoming third-party plugin for Windows Media Center will allow you to watch Hulu videos, along with others, from within the app.

News of the Secondrun.tv first appeared on The Green Button forums, and is being developed by a forum poster calling himself Yaggs.

The plugin is still in public beta, but a video demo is available. Secondrun.tv bascially takes selected RSS data from Hulu, and repackages it in a more TV-friendly format. Instead of a UI that absolutely requires a mouse, Secondrun.tv fashions itself in the likeness of Roku's Netflix box UI, with big cover art and a brief description below.

Shows are organized by network at the moment, but once you start playing a video, the Hulu website rears its remote-unfriendly head. But the guys at Secondrun are working on getting the basic functions working with the remote, and improving the playback UI.

Admittedly, it looks a bit more difficult to search for specific, obscure items that might be on Hulu (and TRUST ME, there is some OBSCURE shit). But if you want to browse the major and/or popular items from the video site, this app seems like it will do the trick.

No word on a release date, but the creator says it will be out soon. There's also no word on how it works with the Windows 7 version of Media Center or the Xbox 360 Media Extender. [The Green Button via TheDigitalLifestyle via Geek Tonic via Download Squad]

The Twirly Danish Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010 [Beautiful]

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Technology

Bjarke Ingels Group's (BIG) Danish Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010 will be a perpetual loop—if you won't be dizzy from the design, you'll be dizzy from how breathtaking it is.

Visitors will get a little taste of Danish culture with the BIG's Danish Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010. In their proposed pavilion, BIG will include a city bike trail, a nature playground, a harbor bath and an ecological picnic. The pavilion's 1,500 city bikes will be offered for general use during the expo. Did I mention the bath will be filled with water from the Copenhagen Harbor in the heart of the pavilion? Amazing.

Kindle 2 Book Jackets Add $30 Worth of Class [Kindle 2]

Posted by Ry on Feb 10 2009 | Technology

M-Edge's $30 Kindle 2 book jackets are designed to do what real book jackets do—provide a protective cover and a fancy exterior to better present your reading materials to the outside world.

They're designed for the Kindle 1 and the Kindle 2, and are made out of "genuine leather". It's even compatible with their book light, because apparently even electronic books need book lights. One sec, my eyeballs rolled too far back into my head. [Buymedge via Crunchgear via Boing Boing Gadgets]
